Fear

First they came for the Communists

And I did not speak out

Because I was not a Communist

Then they came for the Socialists

And I did not speak out

Because I was not a Socialist

Then they came for the trade unionists

And I did not speak out

Because I was not a trade unionist

Then they came for the Jews

And I did not speak out

Because I was not a Jew

Then they came for me

And there was no one left

Why people are looking for “Church” in places other than Church

Figuring out what non-churched people are looking for is an agonizing endeavour for most church leaders. Churches everywhere are trying things that will draw in new people. Yet, in some of my more …

Church Should!

Talk about love. Ok to talk about gun control, but that’s a law thing. Do it, but don’t be known for that..

Be known for talking about God and God things. If your Christian, talk about Jesus and what Jesus taught. Talk about love. Know Gods voice. Then act as if you know who and what you proclaim.

If the church hasn’t taught love, how can you teach gun control. Hate is just about control, power, taking Gods place. If haters don’t kill with guns, they will find another way.they will take away books, education, the right to travel, express yourself. They will kill you with words.

Many ways to kill a person, only one way to save a person. Love. Teach it, or close the doors. Don’t say it’s not my church.  It is our church in different places. Golden calf.

“Walked Past a Church Yesterday, Had This Poster on the Door”…

Kindness Blog

Even if you’re not a religious person, surely this is a church you’d have to at least step in to and say hello!

“We extend a special welcome to those who are single, married, divorced, widowed, gay, confused, filthy rich, comfortable, or dirt poor. We extend a special welcome to those who are crying new-borns, skinny as a rake or could afford to lose a few pounds. You’re welcome if you are Old Leigh, New Leigh, Not Leigh, or just passing by.

We welcome you if you can sing like Pavarotti or can’t carry a note in a bucket. You’re welcome here if you’re ‘just browsing,’ just woke up or just got out of prison. We don’t care if you’re more Christian than the Archbishop of…

Peace

When there is trouble in the Middle East, does Israel send its sons and daughters to help us, or do we send our sons and daughters to help them?

How many believe that God will allow Israel to be destroyed.

WWII, 1949?

God is pruning the Church

The Millennial Pastor

John 15:1-8

Jesus said, “I am the true vine, and my Father is the vinegrower.” (Read the whole passage here).

Sermon

Today, Jesus is speaking to his disciples using the image of vines and branches. His words come in the many teachings that Jesus leaves with his disciples on the night of the Last Supper. These words are spoken, knowing that very shortly Jesus will be arrested, tried, and sentenced to the cross.

The disciples have no idea about what is the come, they believed they were simply sharing a passover meal with the friend and teacher. Yet, Jesus is preparing them. Preparing them for what it will mean for him to die.

We know the rest of the story for the disciples. We know that they do not present themselves very well. They protest when Jesus says one of them will betray him. Peter rebukes Jesus for…

AA

Some have said AA doesn’t work, doesn’t work for all, won’t help people stop drinking.

They are probably right. It will make you a better person who doesn’t have to take that first drink or drug, or first bite of food, or control someone sexually, or just try to control others around you.

Simple but not easy.

Disciple of Jesus

Trying to be a disciple of Jesus.

Christianity no longer works for me. I believe that being Christian has lost the meaning of what Jesus asks , and commands us to do. And if we get to boastful, to sure of our love for God, Jesus tells us to sell everything and give the proceeds to the poor. Then come to Him.

I Don’t believe that we are required to go to the extremes of Francis, Clare, or Mother Theresa, but we are to be servants, expect to lose family and friends, put others before ourselves, take care of the sick, hungry, lonely, widows and orphans. We are expected to turn the other cheek, pray, spend time alone, go two by two, spread the good news, and not judge, and when people don’t want to hear our words, we are to shake the dust from our shoes and leave. Nothing more. No condemning, no this is what will happen if you don’t do as I say, just leave and let the Spirit work.

We have made the name Jesus tripe, some thing that turns people off, offends, angers, roll the eyes and say to them selves, “here we go again”. Someone wants money. Guilt, shame.

When we look to Jesus for better lives, more money, the absence of problems, no sickness, no pain or ailments, we are not promised that. All the disciples died. Some without the love of people, some broke, some horrible deaths, some questioning. But all with God with them.

Is that enough?
